So our organisation has just moved to Google as our email provider. This has freed up space on the local servers and also reduced pressure on the IT team to fix email related issues. An enterprise account with Google provides the organisation with email, cloud space and host of other services which I have slowly started to look into.
Currently working out Google sites as a place for students to create class blogs. The current learning management system has played up a number of times and students/parents have been turned off from accessing it anymore. Hence the reason to switch slowly to a most effective system which is more easily accessible(log in once into google and you have access to youtube, gmail, sites, etc.)
With a single sign on, Calendars can be synced and shared with ease whereas documents shared and collaborated on in google drive. It makes the life easier for students to save collaborated work online and then for a teacher to mark it at home( which we always do). This could also act as backup in days when the silly ol “usb drive” decides to play up.
For a technology teacher, google code is the place to go to, for the latest developments in web and other programming sectors. Google translate for the language teacher and google finance for the economics teacher (pretty complex that area as it draws all the latest data from stock exchanges all over).
So in perspective, switching to google has been interesting and a new learning experience for the staff at my organisation and we are still learning to make the most of this powerful tool.
